The Government of Prince Edward Island, through the Department of the Finance and Municipal Affairs, purchases approximately $100 million worth of goods each year. The Procurement Services Section, purchases for all government departments. The acquisition of most services and contracts for construction projects are administered directly by the appropriate government departments and agencies.
Procurement Services also provide guidance on procurement policy and processes, assisting with the development of tender specifications, preparing tender documents for public advertisement, assisting with evaluation, contract award, as well as the issuance of purchase orders.
The purchasing process is governed by the Public Purchasing Act and Regulations, the Atlantic Procurement Agreement, the Agreement on Internal Trade, and the Atlantic Provinces Standard Terms and Conditions. These documents can be viewed online at http://www.gov.pe.ca/tenders/procurement.php3.
Most tenders are for the supply and delivery of goods to specific locations at a certain time; however, some tenders are called for contracts/standing offers. These Tenders are issued for items to be purchased over a specified period of time on an "as and when required" basis and could require delivery to various locations. These agreements enable departments to order supplies at pre-arranged prices and delivery conditions.
Registration is not required in order to bid on opportunities issued by the Government of Prince Edward Island. Tender opportunities can be viewed online at the procurement website http://www.gov.pe.ca/tenders/. There is no fee for viewing or obtaining these documents.
